Toby Alderweireld could yet sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, per Football London.
What’s the word?
The Belgium international has a deal that expires at the end of this season, much like both Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen.
However, the new report states that there is confidence that a new deal can be agreed with one of the defenders, or perhaps even both.
Football London claims that manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Alderweireld, having previously attempted to sign him for Manchester United.

Statement of intent
This would be a major move from Mourinho.
The report states that Alderweireld has not received a new contract offer since January of 2018 but that could all change under the Portuguese’s management.
Unlike Vertonghen, who is 32 and approaching the twilight of his career, Alderweireld retains the ability to be a major player for the club for years to come.
He has made 15 appearances in all competitions already this season and has 174 to his name in total for Spurs.
Mourinho is clearly a fan if his interest as United manager is anything to go by, and convincing him to pen a new contract would be a statement of intent from both the manager and the player, proving that the defender believes fully in this new project.
Meanwhile, one Spurs player should be fearing for his future.
