Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the arrival of Scott Banks from Dundee United was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
The 18-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Eagles, who have now made two signings this month after a loan deal for Cenk Tosun was also completed.
Banks made his first-team debut for Dundee United earlier this season, having spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Clyde in which he won their Goal of the Season award and was also named as Man of the Match in the game that secured Clyde’s promotion from the Scottish League Two.
Jack Rosser of The Evening Standard recently said that the teenager ‘will more than likely’ go straight into the Eagles’ academy setup, which is understandable given his age.
The south Londoners currently sit 11th in the Premier League with 30 points to their name, although they are the division’s second-lowest scorers having netted just 22 goals in 24 outings.
Let’s see how the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the confirmed transfer…
To begin the reaction to Palace’s second signing of the month, these two supporters compared Banks to a couple of peculiar January signings made by the Eagles back in 2018.
In that specific window, the south Londoners signed two players named Erdal Rakip and Jaroslaw Jach, both of whom are yet to make an appearance for the first-team while Rakip has since left – very strange indeed.
‘YZ’ branded Banks as “this January’s Erdal Rakip” whereas ‘Partizan Palace’ called the transfer “pointless” before referring to the Scottish youngster as “Jach 2.0” – very harsh indeed.
Elsewhere, Billy said that “Roy’s gonna ruin” Banks’ career in response to the club’s official announcement – after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s rise under the former England manager, Hodgson has proved he can develop youngsters, so again, this is a harsh comment
Meanwhile, these two fans were singing a different tune to the aforementioned supporters.
Jamie said that it was a “positive move” and said that it’s “good to see” young players being signed.
Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
Alex also added that it is a “good signing” and that Banks is “a good talent to have”.
Lastly, this fan jokingly asked if the new arrival was “on work experience” given how young he looks!
In other news, the terms of this potential transfer deal are smart from Crystal Palace amid Jairo Riedewald’s revival…
