Ratcliffe purchased a 25 percent stake in the Old Trafford club from the Glazers. INEOS were initially expected to take charge of footballing operations, but reports that they will also have influence in business decisions because they will also affect the sporting side of things. Both the Glazers and Ratcliffe will have to be aligned on the big decisions.

United held an all-staff meeting this week to inform employees of the scope of Ratcliffe's role at the club. The Glazers are willing to give the new partial owner more influence outside of footballing operations to help implement changes in other areas of the business beyond the squad and the Carrington training base.

United have already made one major change since Ratcliffe's deal to buy a £1.25 billion ($1.6bn) stake in the club was announced on December 24. The club are to appoint Omar Berrada as the club's chief executive, having lured him away from a chief operating officer role at rivals Manchester City.

Ratcliffe's deal to buy 25% of United is still to be ratified by the Premier League, but is expected to be given the green light next month. Before then, Erik ten Hag's team will take on Newport in the FA Cup on January 28 before facing Wolves in the Premier League at the start of February.
