West Ham slumped to their seventh defeat in ten matches following a poor display which allowed Wolves to wrap up a win with relative ease.
The Hammers did display some of the organisation that was key to the Chelsea win but were caught out at set-pieces far too frequently for Manuel Pellegrini’s liking.
Ryan Fredericks was the guilty party in the first half, taking his eye off Leander Dendoncker, who subsequently strolled through to tap a volley into the bottom corner.
That left fans fuming, with some blaming the right-back for his poor defending and others targeting whoever was responsible for Fredericks marking the Belgian, as it was clearly an unfair fight.
Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….
The 27-year-old was always likely to lose out physically and therefore supporters’ gripe should be with Pellegrini, with some of the criticism aimed at Fredericks a little unfair.
Fans are mostly annoyed with his effort defending the corner, and given the Hammers have now conceded 24 goals from 15 league games they simply can’t afford to give up goals that easily.
Added to that, the hosts could have doubled things early in the second half with Raul Jimenez twice finding himself in space down West Ham’s right, and but for saves from David Martin things could have been a lot worse.
Another aspect of Fredericks’s substandard performance was his ineffectiveness in attack. He is one of West Ham’s quickest players but far too often he failed to get on the overlap to support his winger, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by supporters.
Fredericks wasn’t the only one who bore the brunt of criticism for being poor against Wolves, with fans also expressing a feeling for who they missed at Molineux, too.
